One of the things I love most about this work is getting to really know my clients. I think people are simply magical and it brings me joy to connect with them, learn who they are and what they love.
After working with the builder of a condo conversion in Alexandria, VA, I connected with one of the new homeowners to help her furnish and decorate her 2 bed/ 2 bath 6th floor penthouse, complete with a spacious rooftop patio and breathtaking views of Old Town.
Our client had such a rich collection of treasured family heirlooms and well made furnishings passed down through generations. It was a lot of fun incorporating these items into our plan, while invigorating the space with fresh new designs and expressing our client’s unique, eclectic style.
Living Room
In the open concept living / dining room we leaned into some of the bolder colors our client was drawn to: royal blues and rich lavender.
My favorite piece was the funky accent chair we worked on with Calico Corners to reupholster (above right). We embraced shades of blue to tie in with the blue sapphire velvet sofa while choosing a pattern that had the right scale to hold up to the very high back of this piece.
Primary Bed Room
Our client came already having purchased her bed and nightstands, a set with sleek mid century modern vibes. We brought in texture, balance, and coziness with the neutral bedding, soft carpet, and custom drapery. We love that the space showcases some of our client’s treasured art pieces.
During a fun afternoon at Principle Art Gallery, we selected a large painting to really establish the color palette and create a cohesive, bright, and joyful space. Keeping the bedding, carpet, and furniture neutral allowed the art to take center stage.
Rooftop
One of only spaces we started from scratch was the rooftop patio. It was important to our client that she was not only able to use the space to wind down at the end of the day, but also have enough seating to host her friends.
The extra long dining table provides plenty of seating for hosting dinner parties. The lounge area features a extra large outdoor sectional. The perfect space for you to kick up your feet or gather your loved ones for some good wine and good conversation.
Bedroom and Hall
The guest room and hallway provided the perfect opportunities to display some cherished family photos and heirlooms.
Whenever we are faced with a gallery wall, and really hanging most art, we call up Nichole at The Gallery Grid. Not only is she the sweetest, we can always trust her to beautifully design and display our clients' art. I honestly can't imagine an install day without her anymore!
We loved working with this sweet client and designing this space for her. She told me not long after we had finished a friend came by and exclaimed "It's so you!" It brings me so much joy to know she feels connected to her space, is able to enjoy so many beloved items from throughout her life, and truly experiences 'home.'
xoxo
